Birmingham Weed and Seed will host a Community Gang Awareness Forum Thursday in the Benjamin Carraway Teaching Auditorium, located on the second floor of Norwood Clinic, 1528 Carraway Blvd. The FBI Violent Crime/Gang/Safe Streets Task Force and the Gang Resistance Education and Training (G. R. E. A. T.) officers of the Birmingham Police Department will facilitate. These officers will update the community on gangs and will also be available to answer questions. For more information, call 502-4701 or 492-9807.

New blog focuses on Intown

Yes, that’s what I said. The author of The InTown Green/Urban Upscale Minute wants you to move and pay attention to some of the historic neighborhoods in Birmingham. It also sounds like we may have another suggestion for what to call the Magic City’s city center.

It’s still early, but it looks as if the author’s focus is going to be the northern areas of the city. Time will tell though as it is brand new.

BSC alum called up by Oakland A’s

Connor Robertson - Courtesy of BSC AthleticsAs Birmingham Southern College prepares to end its last year as a NCAA Division I school, many in their athletics department are probably quite pleased with the news received yesterday morning. The college released a statement yesterday announcing that former Panthers first baseman/closer Connor Robertson had been called up by the Oakland Athletics from their Triple-A team, the Sacramento RiverCats .
