Muse of Fire Macbeth auditions, WorkPlay

No this is not an error, they’ve added a second day of auditions to the mix. We tweaked the text to make it sound new (we actually just changed the date…)

The folks at Muse of Fire are preparing for their next performance of Shakespeare at Sloss. They are holding auditions for their Spring 2008 production, Macbeth. The full requirements are over on their website, www.shakespeareatsloss.com, (especially important if you plan on auditioning to be either Macbeth or Lady Macbeth) though we can at least tell you to start working on that short Shakespearean monologue that you’re going to perform on January 14.

You can set up another time for an interview by contacting Muse’s Elizabeth Hunter at muse@elizabethofnewyork.com.

Just in case you’re not planning to audition, tickets go on sale in March and the show goes on May 3 &4. Stay tuned.

WorkPlay

Kapali G. Swamy Foundation Benefit, WorkPlay

For those of you who may not know, Kapali Swamy passed away on November 18. You’d recognize his smiling face if you were a regular at The U or WorkPlay in the recent years. Some of his friends are organizing a memorial benefit event in the WorkPlay Theater.

There will be performances by local musicians and music by area DJs. There will also be free buffet-style food available. Proceeds and donations collected at the door will given to the Kapali G. Swamy Scholarship Fund at Birmingham Southern College. The fund is being organized by Kapali’s family to provide a stipend for one winner each year to pursue a complete, independent filmmaking project, which will hopefully serve as a springboard for a career in film.

Kapali was a friend to this site, and we hope that you will take a moment and stop by this event and remember someone who truly loved life.

Just in case you can’t attend the event you can send a donation to:

Random Shots: Birmingham helps prep for Tournament of Roses

One of the best things about the annual Tournament of Roses parade, taking place tomorrow, is the number of volunteers that help create those beautiful floats. What does this have to do with Birmingham, you ask?

A quick drive through the Lakeview district of town had many businesses closed through New Year’s Day. All of them are taking some well-deserved rest, though the folks at Hothouse Design Studio provided one of the more interesting reasons indeed:

Just in case you’re wondering just what that means, check out this image of the Rain Bird Corporation’s float, entitled Preservation Celebration.

So don’t forget to check it out on TV tomorrow!

We here hope that all of you enjoy a Happy New Year!
