Random Shots: Silverton’s back!

Interior of Silvertron Cafe

Yes, this is the interior of The Silvertron Cafe. It’s been closed for a few months now, but this comment on the post we used to announce that made us go out to take a look. A phone call to the property owner confirmed the rumor, with word that this Birmingham favorite is planning to be re-opened by the end of the month.

We have learned that the new owners are Marco Morosini and his wife. We’ll see if can find out anything else about it and let you know as soon as possible.

Just in case you needed another good reason to vote on October 9…

I voted stickerWe ran into the folks from The Bottletree this weekend at Pepper Place and they told us that anyone that comes in on Election Day (Tuesday, October 9) who has

a) voted, and
b) has an “I Voted” sticker on that’s been handed out that day

would receive a free beer!

So what are you waiting for… if you haven’t already registered, click here to download the state registration form. You can also visit our election coverage site, though we’re not completely finished with it either.

BTW: If you know of any other specials being done for those who have voted, put it up as a comment to this post. Thanks!

Scott’s Koneys is closed, but just for a moment

Scott’s Koneys - Image From John MorseThe rumors of their demise were premature, but only slightly. Black & White reported in their August 9 edition that longtime local favorite Scott’s Koneys was already closed. Well, yesterday was actually the last day for the 30+ year old establishment at its current location. Don’t get too upset though; they do still intend to move into the Liberty National building located at the corner of Richard Arrington, Jr. Blvd. and 3rd Avenue South. The foot traffic outside of the old location was steady today. Thanks to the Bryants of B’ham and our friends at Bhamwiki for the information.
