It’s Member Day across The Magic City

Member Day logoToday several of our cultural institutions are taking part in the Member Day event here in Birmingham. Members of 14 arts & cultural groups around the metropolitan area recently received tickets via U.S. Mail.

With that ticket or a valid membership card, members have free entry all day long to any participating location, including McWane Science Center, Birmingham Zoo, Vulcan Park & Museum and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

If you’re not a member, you can still join at any of the participating sites during the day to gain access. This schedule gives you an overview of all of the day’s activities. The event, formerly called A Day for Discovery, is a great way to become familiar with the region’s offerings.

Saturday Will Be Sweet

Naked Art’s summer sale opens this Saturday, July 14, with an ice cream reception. Everything in the Forest Park gallery is discounted 10 – 50%! Plus you’ll find several flavors of free ice cream in the back room from 1 – 3 p.m.

The sale lasts for several weeks, but it’s a good idea to go early since the prime pieces will go fast.

Moses Mayfield’s getting its due

mosesBirmingham-based Moses Mayfield is enjoying a whirlwind ride that’s been years in the making. They’re finally seeing the fruits of their label through the release of their first full length, major label effort, The Inside, in March.

Recently, the folks at IGN.com interviewed the band to find out "what makes them tick." The results are quite fun and interesting.
