Hi guys! This is Whitney making a valiant post-cold effort to bring news of good music.

Wednesday night, I checked out the Cordero/13ghosts show at Bottletree. May I say one thing? ADORABLE! I’ve never really been a fan of much Spanish-centric music, but singer/songwriter Ani Cordero and her band of indie veterans (from Calexico and Rock*A*Teens) endeared me. Check them out on their website and pick up their new album, De Donde Eres.

As for 13ghosts, they never disappoint and I’m a big fan. They’re signed to Skybucket Records, so I expect nothing less with all the stuff Travis Morgan has got going on lately. Be sure to check out the nterview I did with Brad Armstrong of 13ghosts back in August.

So, what’s on the agenda music-wise this weekend?

Tonight, 10.10:

We vs. The Shark is playing Cave9 along with 3 other locals. $6. First set starts at 7 p.m.

Our good friends The White Oaks are playing WorkPlay tonight at 9:45 p.m. It’s only 7 bucks.

Dorean Lives is playing Speakeasy (1920 3rd Ave. N.) tonight, so drink a PBR for me!

Saturday, 10.11:

Saviours, Arclight and Fake Tyrants play Bottletree. Fake Tyrants is fronted by Matt Whitson, one of the producers of APT’s new music show We Have Signal (stay tuned for a pretty in depth post coming up featuring the guys that are putting it together). 18+ show, tix are $10.

Also, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are playing the Alys Stephens Center on Saturday night. Who knew? This makes me proud of Birmingham and if you’ve got enough in your entertainment budget to see these legendary songwriters and major major musicians, it’ll be worth it.

Sunday, 10.12:

Cave9 rounds out the weekend with the Bachelor Bash headed by Ex-Members of the Holy Trinity and Honeysuckle (among a bunch of others). Despite the title, I’m sure they’ll be very welcoming of the ladies. It only $5 at 5 p.m.
