WordCamp Birmingham 2009 is on!

PhotoMatt @ BlogWorld 2007 OK folks, It’s on; WordCamp Birmingham 2009 that is!

I’m happy to announce a bunch of things related to our second annual conference for WordPress users and bloggers of all ages, currently scheduled for Saturday, September 26. The first WordCamp Birmingham 2009 planning meeting will be next Thursday, March 12, at 11:30 a.m. at o kafés! in Pepper Place. Please let me (André) know if you’re interested in helping plan this year’s edition via email.

I’m also happy to confirm that our keynote speaker will be none other than WordPress’ founding developer (and all around nice guy) Matt Mullenweg, pictured here with his very own black Terminal T back in 2007. Nashville’s Mitch Canter of Studio Nashvegas has also agreed to come back and present.

Finally, we will be launching the WordCamp Birmingham site on The Terminal next Wednesday afternoon.

That’s all… for now.

Welcome WordCampers!

We’ve been slightly quieter than normal this week because of preparing to host WordPress users from across the Southeastern United States at WordCamp Birmingham. the conference begins at the Martha Moore Sykes Studio at the Virginia Samford Theatre at Caldwell Park. They’ll be at Vulcan Park and The Bottletree on Sunday. Registration will remain open until 9 a.m. tomorrow (Saturday) morning, when the fun starts. We’d like to take a moment to direct you to this list of sponsors and supporters of this inaugural conference. And we’d like to invite you to check out the schedule as well.

What, you say you want to welcome them to town yourselves though you’re not planning to come to the conference? How about coming out to Jim ‘N Nick’s in Five Points tonight starting at 6 p.m. for an impromptu meetup/Tweetup for Terminal fans and WordCampers. Look for logo.

Across the pond: WordCamp Birmingham… overseas

WordCamp UK logoThe WordCamp announced earlier today as part of SxDS will not be the only one held in a city named Birmingham this year. As we begin a daily check-in with our sister city across the pond, we take note that they also announced plans for a WordCamp today.

Theirs is currently scheduled to take place on July 19 & 20. They currently have a wiki and a subdomain set up on WordCamp.org to help with planning.

FYI – There’s also one coming up in France starting on May 3…

SxDS: It’s on!

SxDS logoWe’ve just learned that SxDS is going to happen September 26 – 28 here in Birmingham, Alabama. There will also be a WordCamp rolled into the event; it would be the first WordCamp in the Southeastern United States. Yeah, that’s on top of already having the Sidewalk Moving Picture Festival that same weekend (it’s 10th!). The announcements will appear on their sites at approximately 2:30 p.m. CDT.

More details to follow, but for now check out their official website or follow them on Twitter. You can also sign up to assist with the WordCamp through its Google Group.
