Football, racecars and tailgating in October…

Magic City Classic LogoIt should be an interesting Halloween in and around Birmingham, AL this year. The Magic City Classic is less than 90 days away and it is the largest single sporting event held in the city every year. Last year’s attendance was more than 69,000 – and that only represents those who made their way inside Legion Field.

This year the crowds associated with the annual battle on the gridiron between Alabama A&M and Alabama State will be competing with another pair of large scale events for weekend sports coverage (and hotel rooms) – the Mountain Dew 250 and the Amp Energy 500, both taking place at the Talladega Superspeedway. Fans of both events may want to start looking into hotel rooms as soon as possible – or at least plan for a weekend of tailgating madness.

Indy Car’s visiting Barber next weekend

Indy car series logo - Barber Motor SportsA flyer is making the rounds online announcing the Indy Racing League‘s only preseason road course test – at the Barber Motorsports Park – next weekend, March 21-24.  Apparently a good showing during the three-day test would go a long way towards bringing Indy racing to the Birmingham area in 2010. That shouldn’t be too hard to accomplish considering IRL champ Scott Dixon, Marco Andretti and Danica Patrick are among the drivers scheduled to be here.

The flyer contains information about getting tickets for the event with a discount to car club members, which is why we’re showing you the details posted on the Barber website.

What else is there besides ‘Dega this weekend?

Don’t know about y’all, but I’m going racin’ this weekend. As in racin’ with them boys out at Dega. But don’t worry, before I head out to the track I’ve got plenty for you non-racing fans to do this weekend. Just head over to Timetable for more while I get all pretty for Kasey Kahne.
