Farewell, Johnny Ray’s

johnnyrayslogoThe word out in the Twitterverse that yesterday was your last chance to enjoy food from Johnny Ray’s – at least as we knew it. The current owners of the 55 year old local barbecue chain have decided to retire with different plans being made for all of the existing locations.

The chatter online has been sparse, though it was apparent that the changes were expected, though some early moves left folks unsure.

Thanks to @bmcgraw for the heads up on the news about the local franchise.

Fleabomb’s going to be OK too

The difference is that it won’t be as frequent. So says the founder of Birmingham’s original alternative online website, Stanley Holditch, in a recent post on its current incarnation. We know it’s been up for a while, but we felt obligated to point it out to those of you that didn’t know. it’s a rough time here for media of all types as we say goodbye to WBHM’s Steve Chiotakis tomorrow morning, farewell to AL.com’s Grant Cannon as he heads off to Chicago today, and this. We’re didn’t think of Stanley’s post as a farewell, especially with the pictures of his newborn, but we think the least y’all should do is stop on over and tell him how much you appreciate what he’s done for Birmingham.

The Mojo’s in Texas now…

Probably not what you’re expecting from us first thing on a Monday morning. But we had to take a moment and bid a fond farewell to an early supporter and contributor to The Terminal.

Chris “Mojo” Denbow has packed up and headed west, to Houston, TX. We hope that we’ll still see him around from time to time. If you aren’t familiar with him, you may want to check out one of the many online homes that he maintains.

Thanks for everything & good luck!

Help send The Bomb Shelter out in style

Spottiswoode poster

We’d hoped to get this up yesterday, but the fun thing about technology is that sometimes it chooses not to work. The Bomb Shelter generously lent us some of the furniture that we used for our anniversary party on Friday. We’d like to make sure that as many people as possible know about (and go to) tonight’s send-off for the local music venue…

Spottiswoode + Menewa, The Bomb Shelter

Show your love for The Bomb Shelter as it says farewell tonight. They showed some love to us by letting us borrow some furniture for our anniversary party on March 14.

Spottiswoode and his Enemies are on their way back from SXSW and have decided to make a pit stop in the Magic City to help The folks at The Bomb Shelter say farewell. They’ll be joined by local band Menewa.
