Bare Hands to go out with a BANG!

Bare Hands Gallery logo Bare Hands Gallery announced Monday morning via its website, emails and its Facebook fan page that it will cease operations effective Thursday, December 30, 2010. The gallery has operated on Richard Arrington, Jr. Blvd. for the last 14 ½ years.

The gallery’s final exhibition will be SHINE 2010 – Going Out with a BANG!, taking place from Friday, December 3 until the 30th.

It had been enjoying a busy year, including its 14th anniversary celebration in June and continued support from the community.  The gallery’s board however that the non-profit organization was not sustainable given the present economic climate.

The annual Day of the Dead event will continue as its own separate non-profit organization, Day of the Dead Alabama, according to the posted statement. The Birmingham News has already posted a story about this morning’s announcement.

The advisory board of Bare Hands Gallery invites everyone to this community event to raise funds for the gallery’s public education initiatives, exhibits and events. “The Garden Party with A City View” is scheduled for Saturday from 7-10 p.m. at Jones Valley Urban Farm, located at the corner of 7th Avenue North and 25th Street in Downtown Birmingham.

Don your finest garden attire and enjoy live music from Bo Butler and the Nice Boys, and the White Oaks, complimentary drinks provided by International Wines, and delicious food from local restaurants including Urban Standard, Franklin’s Homewood Gourmet, Lucy’s Coffee & Tea, Icon Restaurant, Cosmos, Bottletree, Healthy Connections, Rojo & more. There will also be fun door prizes.

Local artists will contribute elaborate centerpieces that will be on display that evening to help raise funds. Partygoers will have the chance to vote on their favorite pieces. Tickets are $25 before May 9 and $30 day of and at door. Available in person at Bare Hands Gallery or by calling (205) 324.2124.

Bare Hands Gallery is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization championing Alabama contemporary artists. It is located at 109 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd South.
