On a special “Got plans this weekend?”…

Maybe it’s the lack of events that we know about. Maybe it’s the fact that we’ve all been running around for the past three weeks trying to get to everyone’s holiday party. Maybe it’s because we all can’t move like Nick Saban doing the Cupid Dance

Christina’s suggestions for plans for this weekend are a little on the simple side. Check ’em out

Magic City Question: There’s still time…

We knew that we’d posted our recent question late on Friday, and we’re asking for the additional responses rather late on Monday, but we’re still interested in knowing what your favorite video game is, especially since the gaming pioneer for many of us turned 25 years old today

Think we’ll make the revised map?

Based on the some of the comments included in this morning’s Birmingham News story about new MAX chairman Brian Hamilton, it may happen sooner than we think.

This is an image from a promotional e-card going around for a new book about cities around the world with existing or planned rail systems. The folks over at Strangemaps have more details about the book, titled appropriately enough, Transit Maps of the World.

Their post also talks about some of the really weird things about the map…

Can you still write BASIC? The C64 turns 25 next week

Imagine what it would be like to surf sites like this on a Commodore 64? Well, many of us owe our current love affair with the personal computer to the C64, which is celebrating its 25th birthday on Monday.

It’s still the best selling computer model of all time AND it gave us The Last Ninja, only one of the greatest video games ever. If you want to play it or any other game, go check out C64.com (and what better lead-in for a Magic City Question to leave up through Monday…).

While we’re in the midst of a trip down memory lane; just last week the world recognized the 25th anniversary of Michael Jackson’s Thriller… Continue reading

Need some help with that turkey today?

Turkey Talk Line ladies

While many may believe that the Butterball Turkey Hotline is an urban legend, it’s actually true. It’s reallly called the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line and it was ready to go as usual beginning at 6 a.m. local time this morning. If you need to talk with them and get help for cooking that bird today, you’ll have until 6 p.m. tonight (the ladies need to enjoy dinner with their families too afterall).

UAB employee “wins” saddest cubicle contest

David Gunnell’s CubicleYeah, that’s why we put quotations in the title; I kind of wondered if he’s excited about the award or if he’d rather we not let our readership know about it. David Gunnells’ cubicle was selected over lots of entries to Wired.com. He is now the proud owner of a RoboMan webcam.

Based on his description and the pictures, one could see that the University of Alabama at Birmingham employee was worthy of the prize (though we’re still wondering if he’s really excited or if he’ll be able to trade up to a better cubicle because of the notoriety).

We found out from the guys over at CNET News, though you could just read the account from Wired.com itself, complete with slide shows pictures of all of the other contenders.

Happy Halloween!

There’s tons of stuff to cover today, but we figured we’d just give y’all something to get you in the mood…

Don’t forget to wonder on down to 2nd Avenue North later on tonight in downtown Birmingham for what’s become an annual tradition. If we knew what time we’d tell you, but we don’t. Submit some pictures if you’re so inclined of costumes, parties, whatever…
