While many may believe that the Butterball Turkey Hotline is an urban legend, it’s actually true. It’s reallly called the Butterball Turkey Talk-Line and it was ready to go as usual beginning at 6 a.m. local time this morning. If you need to talk with them and get help for cooking that bird today, you’ll have until 6 p.m. tonight (the ladies need to enjoy dinner with their families too afterall).

We love a parade…

Macy’s parade - partial screenshot

…and nothing says the holidays (at least to most of the nation – and a few displaced New Yorkers) than the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. When the telecast begins here at 9 a.m. local time on NBC13, the parade will have already been winding down from 77th Street on New York’s West Side for about 30 minutes or so. But will all of the new balloons and floats, and a chance to see a performance from a show that is not currently being performed on Broadway because of the stagehand strike, it’s still a great way to get the holiday season started.

That and the guy in the red suit…

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at The Terminal!

It’s the 10th anniversary of the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and to buy recycled products. The section of the National Recycling Coalition website focused on the event provides information about its history, area events by state (the only one listed for Alabama is one in Guntersville; it starts at 10 a.m.), and provides a way for you to pledge that you will do your part.

Ron Paul online support held up by bots?

Ron Paul photoThat’s the word from Gary Warner, the University of Alabama at Birmingham’s director of research in computer forensics and others in an article on Wired.com earlier this week. It’s made the rounds throughout the blogosphere and it’s beginning to show its face in mainstream media.

The story maintains that Republican presidential candidate Ron Paul (pictured) had no involvement in an aggressive spamming bot campaign that is said to have inflated Paul’s online poll and support numbers. Makes you wonder just how accurate will these online polls will be as elections become more sophisticated?

The Smartcar was here…

Smart Car PhotoYeah, if you didn’t venture over to Brookwood Village the weekend of September 7, then you missed your chance to see and test drive the Smart fortwo in metro Birmingham. So, if you want to try out this new car (new to the U.S. that is), then you’ll have to drive on up to Knoxville, specifically to Market Square. Test drives will take place on Friday and Sunday; if you go Saturday, you’ll only get to stare in awe.

Visit their site and learn more, including where the car’s going next.

Get out and support the Jena 6

MyUrbanReport has details about the “Get on the Bus” rally in front of the Jena, LA courthouse being organized for September 20. Americans for Justice Network will be sponsoring buses from several cities, including one from Birmingham. It also provides some information about how you can support the effort even if you’re unable to attend.

Many across the country are watching the situation in Louisiana unfold carefully, waiting to see just what the outcome will be for the six African American students that were originally charged with second-degree attempted murder after a high school fight.
