Rojo is hosting a photo exhibit this evening titled, Things that Mike P. Would Have Liked to pay tribute to and help the family of Michael Prichard, who died unexpectedly on September 14 at the age of 40. Here is a link to the death announcement that we posted over on Timetable’s blog.

The exhibit consists of photos provided exclusively by members of the local filmmaking community. All proceeds from sales will go to Michael’s family. The show opens tonight at 6 p.m. at Rojo and it’s free to get in. It will remain up until November 9.

The festival kicks off Friday, Sept. 28, with a screening of “The Ten,” a comedy loosely based on the Ten Commandments starring a bunch of big names including Winona Ryder, Adam Brody, Jessica Alba. Saturday and Sunday you can get your fill of features, shorts, documentaries, animation — there’s something for everyone. Read all about the 2007 film lineup here. It’s not just all movies though. In-between screenings enjoy food, music and panel discussions. New this year, Sidewalk has partnered with the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to highlight civil and human rights-related films.

Cost: Opening night tickets are $10 in advance/$13 at the door. Weekend passes (Saturday and Sunday) are $25 in advance/$30 at the door. We Have Too Much Heart – now on YouTube

Fresh off the MySpace bulletins… check out the Cave 9 documentary We Have Too Much Heart by Joey Brown. It’s uploaded on YouTube in two parts (about 6-8 minutes each) and gives great insight into what Cave9 is, who runs it, and why it has become such an important part of Birmingham’s independent music scene. I hope Joey submitted it to Sidewalk, because this seems this would be an instant favorite in the Best Short Documentary Film category.

Spidey in RainJust to help feed the hype that is Spiderman 3, we just felt it was our civic duty to remind everyone that all three of our local Rave Motion Pictures locations are showing the film beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday morning. That, and the fact that as of the time of this posting, tickets are still available. Of course with that being said, it’s not like we’re trying to convince anyone to skip work later that morning just because you were out watching the latest Spidey film….
