A grand re-opening in Eastwood

Wal-Mart opening in Eastwood

It’s here. The new Eastwood Village Wal-Mart Supercenter #1711 opened its doors this morning at 8 a.m. complete with marching band. It’s one of three that opened in the state today. There was plenty of management on hand for the ribbon cutting (and plenty of people based on this picture). Overheard was the comment that this Wal-Mart is top of the line with all the bells and whistles the company has to offer. It certainly still has that new store smell.

Whistle Stop Festival, Downtown Irondale

Just down the road from downtown Birmingham in downtown Irondale, will be the annual Whistle Stop Festival, named for  “Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Café” by Fannie Flagg. The festival will have arts and crafts, memorabilia from the city’s past and  of course, fried green tomatoes along with other Southern foods, free music, rock climbing, a moon walk, face painting and a dog show among other things.
