Random Shots: Building a new future

Fountain Heights Construction

Workers make progress on one of several homes in the Fountain Heights neighborhood where construction began on infill housing last year. The homes are being constructed in the Northern Triangle area of the neighborhood as part of a HOPE VI development. The award-winning revitalization plan for Fountain Heights was the focus of last month’s ONB Breakfast Briefing.

Birmingham awarded Preserve America Grant for Ensley

Representatives from the City of Birmingham and Main Street Birmingham were in Washington, DC earlier today to formally receive a Preserve America grant as part of ceremonies recognizing all first round recipients at a 9 a.m. ceremony in the Cannon House office building. This is the first Preserve America grant that has been awarded to The Magic City.

A home away from home moves into a new one

Our image of the new Ronald McDonald House is not nearly as cool as the image shown at this morning’s ONB Breakfast Briefing. It was taken about two months ago while the building was under construction. Yesterday it began service as the new home of the 5th oldest Ronald McDonald House worldwide (and it opened debt-free). Today’s meeting focused on several new developments in the area, including the new Hyatt Place property to be located on the former Williams Cadillac site along 20th Street South.
