Car tags due in Aug. or Sept? You’ve got breathing room

Yes, we’re serious. Today the word came down from the state’s revenue commissioner, Tim Russell, that if your car tags are scheduled to be renewed either this month or in September in Jefferson County that you’ve now got until November to do so, meaning Birmingham residents don’t necessarily have to worry about standing in those long lines at the county courthouse or in Linn Park. The PDF was posted on the state’s revenue site earlier today and applies not only to vehicle registration renewals but property tax payment deadlines.

The extension also applies to Jefferson County residents who’ve recently acquired a vehicle between July 12 and September 10 who have not been able to register it within the 20-day registration period because of the county office closings that took place starting yesterday.

If you need to renew your license, don’t forget that you can do that anywhere in the state (as reported in The Birmingham News on Friday).

You are correct. I am an "S" also and am supposed to renew my car registration Sept.. It's good to know I have until Nov. 30, 2009.

Sweet! I'm an "S". I'm pretty sure these months are for residents with the last names starting with "R" and "S". Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
