UAB will host a computer security workshop for small businesses 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 20 in the UAB Hill University Center Alumni Auditorium, 1400 University Boulevard.
Richard Kissel, a computer specialist with the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), will show participants how they can define information security for their organizations. He will identify common types of threats, discuss best practices and procedures and examine technologies used in reducing information-security vulnerabilities.
The seminar is sponsored by the NIST, the Small Business Administration and the FBI, with the assistance of the InfraGard Chapter of Birmingham and the UAB departments of Justice Sciences and Computer & Information Sciences.
