It’s been tough, I know. A full work week coming off a 3-day- holiday weekend can be exhausting. After catching up on emails and voicemails, it’s time for cocktails. (Ok, sorry. I promise to never rhyme again).

So, in honor of hump day – or as some call it – Wine Down Wednesday, let’s turn our attention to a few IN drinking spots that made the cut: The J. Clyde, Metro Bistro, and The Wine Loft.

The J. Clyde – We got a bunch of nominations for this bar/restaurant from beer fans across the metro area but I’ll let this one nomination speak for them all:

The J Clyde is the only place I know of in Alabama that cares about good beer. All of their taps are brand new, and the beer is poured and tastes as fresh as you will find it anywhere.

They carry every beer currently available in Alabama (except Bud products), and have 34+ taps of all flavors of beer, all while upholding a boycott of all Budweiser products to bring attention to the upcoming 6% ABV Gourmet Beer Bill in the legislature. And, their business continues to grow, despite that fact.

Their food is good, too. They have a menu that can satisfy any budget, from tasty apps to full dinners. They also have a late night menu. Please support this business! They are really working hard to bring American craft beers, as well as Belgiums and other great beers of the World, to Birmingham. Most cities of any size have had places like this for a while. Cool patio atmosphere, too. Friendly people.” – Al S.

Metro Bistro – Also a favorite of the downtown dwellers…

Great place to hangout, good music, great diversity” – Joshua A.

The “Bistro” is the quintessential Birmingham Downtown bar.  Great live music, wonderful staff (where everybody knows your name), and a fabulous atmosphere.  Great sandwiches at lunch too.” – Jerry S.

The Wine Loft – Right up the street from Metro Bistro for you bar hoppers. And they celebrate Wine Down Wednesday specifically if you were so inclined this evening.

Cozy, nothing like it in the city. Very cosmopolitan feel.” – Monica

Great atmosphere, good food, EXCELLENT drinks!” – Latandra S.
