Seems that everything old is new again

We’re thinking about switching all of our “quirky” tagged stories to “interesting” and this one is a prime example of why. New_Nikon_Addict’s photostream on Flickr includes an image of a 1952 Jet magazine article talking about the “burying” of sin here in Birmingham. Sound familiar? It should since it was just used again recently in Detroit, MI by the NAACP.

The Radio Carousel: Dale Jackson lands in Huntsville

Dale Jackson - Wvnn.comDale Jackson used to be half of the morning show on 101.1FM’s The Source before that station’s format change in early July. He now has his own show called “The Attack Machine” in Huntsville.

Evening roundup: Reporting on the MN bridge collapse in Birmingham

It seems that everybody is concerned with the state of our local bridges after watching the aftermath of the bridge collapse in Minneapolis yesterday afternoon. The numbers of structurally deficient bridges in our state seems to differ depending on who you talk to.

The Radio Carousel: Citadel Broadcasting’s Daniels last day Friday

The man that brought Birmingham Hot 107.7 and FM sports talk while overseeing the fading of The X’s signal is leaving… for ATL. The Birmingham News says that Dale Daniels will be taking a job outside of the radio market industry after resigning from his position as market manager for Citadel Broadcasting, effective Friday.

Our current poll question in the Newsstand asks if local radio is better or worse because of Daniels’ tenure. Let us know what you think; maybe even put a comment or two down here.

Don’t forget about Rod

With all of the attention being focused on the recent changes in the news department of NBC13, including the sudden departure of Fran Curry and the return of Andrea Linderberg to the airwaves, its easy to forget that former NBC13 reporter Rod Carter is coming back from Tampa. MyUrbanReport talked to Carter about his return to Birmingham, effective July 23.
