Why Don’t you Bike to Work Today!

Today is National Bike to Work Day, part of National Bike Month . It’s great weather to go out for a bike ride today. It may be too late for you to participate this morning, but if you’re reading this, The Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham with the support of the Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization , the Birmingham Bicycle Club , GC Cycling , Vulcan Tri and CommuteSmart will be doing just that.

They are planning to lead a convoy through Birmingham’s City Center to tour ongoing, planned, and proposed revitalization and streetscape improvement projects. Continue reading

Porsche Driving announces Experience for Women Only in September

It’s still several months away (and it may just be out of reach for many of us) but the guys from Porsche Sport Driving School are offering a women’s only two-day high performance driving course at Barber Motorsports Park September 18 & 19. Up until now, the Porsche Driving Experience has primarily drawn men to the course, leaving wives and girlfriends to sit on the sidelines watching them have all the fun driving around Barber. Experience ctivities will include classroom instruction as well as on-track sessions and off-road courses. Continue reading

Go Tell It; A center is born tonight

The event is being held in conjunction with the announcement of the creation of the Alabama Gospel Music Cultural Arts Center. The center is the outgrowth of efforts to renovate and utilize the former McCoy United Methodist facility, located across the street from Birmingham-Southern College by the McCoy Center for Community Service. “Go Tell It!”, Alys Stephens Center

Go Tell It! Celebrating Our Own in Gospel Music! is the first fundraising event aimed at reopening the doors of the former McCoy United Methodist Church as the Alabama Gospel Music Cultural Arts Center.

The facility is located across from the campus of Birmingham Southern College . Plans for the center will be revealed during the event, with proceeds from ticket sales going towards its development. towards development of the center.
