Today is National Bike to Work Day, part of National Bike Month . It’s great weather to go out for a bike ride today. It may be too late for you to participate this morning, but if you’re reading this, The Regional Planning Commission of Greater Birmingham with the support of the Birmingham Metropolitan Planning Organization , the Birmingham Bicycle Club , GC Cycling , Vulcan Tri and CommuteSmart will be doing just that.

They are planning to lead a convoy through Birmingham’s City Center to tour ongoing, planned, and proposed revitalization and streetscape improvement projects. They will be leaving the fountain at Five Points South at 7 a.m. and follow a 7-mile course. While making people aware of the progress taking place downtown is one goal of the event, a more important one is to raise motorist awareness of cyclists.

All participants will receive giveaway items along with cold drinks upon completion of the ride at the offices of the Center for Regional Planning and Design on 1st Avenue North sometime between 7:45 – 8 a.m.
