Park Place Farmers Market begins next week

We’ve noticed that many people have stumbled across our site while looking for information about when the farmer’s market in Linn Park will begin this year.

We’ve learned that the market is tentatively scheduled to make its return for a third year beginning next Wednesday, June 13. The market will run from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

At this time, the end date is not known. It is also not known if the market will operate on July 4, which falls on a Wednesday this year. Once the final set of dates are confirmed, we will add them to the Timetable calendar.

Zoo announces free day for race participants

The Birmingham Zoo has determined that this year’s Run for the Animals cannot be rescheduled due to scheduling conflicts. They have announced that those that were to participate in the race will now be able to enjoy a Free Day at the Zoo this coming Sunday, June 10. Continue reading

Langford to enter mayor’s race

Sounds like we’re going to get our second official candidate for mayor tomorrow afternoon. The Birmingham News reported yesterday that Jefferson County Commissioner Larry Langford intends to announce his candidacy for mayor tomorrow morning during the commission’s weekly meeting. Continue reading

Economic impact of arts and culture to be announced Wednesday

The Cultural Alliance of Greater Birmingham sent e-mails out late last week announcing a press conference that will take place on Wednesday morning, June 6, at 10 a.m.

They are asking those interested to meet in the Children’s Zoo section of the Birmingham Zoo to hear how Jefferson County is impacted by arts and culture. The results of an independent survey will be shared with the general public. The Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce, Greater Birmingham Convention and Visitors Bureau, Economic Development Partnership of Alabama and the state tourism office are all listed on the announcement for the press conference. Vulcan’s 103rd Birthday Bash, Vulcan Park

Go on out to Vulcan Park and celebrate the big guy’s 103rd birthday! The park, museum and observation deck will be open and birthday cake and Blue Bell Ice Cream will be available to all in attendance. As long as you get there by 2 p.m., you’ll get an opportunity to sing "Happy Birthday" and enjoy the sounds of the Birmingham Children’s Choir.

Members get in for free – you can join in advance or at the gate. Otherwise it’s $3 – unless you’re under 4.
 

Art for Hope, The Parthenon

The 2nd Annual Art for Hope auction will take place at The Parthenon on June 1, beginning at 6:30 p.m. the purpose of the fundraiser is to support the creation of a regional office for The Lupus Support Network.

Approximately 30,000 Alabamians have been diagnosed with Lupus, yet there is no supportive network or foundation for individuals with Lupus and their families in Birmingham.

Music will be provided by Peanut.

Tickets are still available for $25 on their web page or at the event.

HealthSouth to sell corporate campus

The Birmingham News and various other news outlets are reporting that HealthSouth has agreed to sell its corporate campus to an investment fund sponsored by Trammell Crow Co., a real estate development company in Dallas, TX. The reported sale price is $60 million. The sale would include their headquarters building, their 85-acre campus and their "digital hospital" that still sits unfinished four years after construction was halted. Continue reading
