Election ’07: It’s going to be a while

At least until Monday according to the Birmingham News breaking news blog. That will be the earliest that the judge hearing arguments about whether or not Larry Langford gets to serve his term or not will be able to make a decision. Check out the post for more information.

I figured it was high time to share my thoughts on yesterday’s inauguration and recent events. The first of what will become a more regularly scheduled posting over on my Birmingham. Today’s ramble stems from one simple gesture made at yesterday’s inauguration.

This is the scene looking west along 4th Avenue North as the News’ former home sees its last days on the northeast corner of 22nd Street & 4th Avenue North. Demolition of the 1917 structure is expected to be completed early next week.

Birmingham Boston Terrier Rescue is an area non-profit that works to save, assess and place Boston Terriers in stable, loving homes as well as providing information on how best to care for these lovable animals for current owners. This event serves as a fundraiser for the organization.

Head on over to Rucker Place and take part in a live and silent auction for artwork created regionally as well as a doggie fashion show, live music, cash bar and food by Kathy G.

Travelogue: Andrews’ diagnosis used to combat Peterson reports? Maybe…

Those of us in town now just how often Dr. James Andrews is sought out in terms of first and second (hell, even third) opinions about the status of several high profile athletes. For those not familiar with Dr. Andrews, he’s considered one of (if not THE) preeminent orthopedic surgeons in the country; his offices are currently on the campus of St. Vincent’s Hospital at the Alabama Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center on Birmingham’s Southside.

This is the first time that I can remember that he’s been quoted in a release by a major sports franchise to combat published reports.
