Alabama’s GDP like Iran

The Strangemaps blog posted a real interesting map over the weekend.

This map shows what individual state gross domestic product (GDP) numbers are equal to. GDP is seen as the best way to compare Alabama’s is ranked 25th according to the list, with its $195 billion GDP equaling that of the 36th best in the world – Iran.

More information about Topper Price

As mentioned earlier today , Topper Price passed away yesterday evening. An earlier update on this site erroneously stated potential funeral arrangements announced. Currently the plans are to cremate Price’s body here in Birmingham. The cause of death has not been determined pending an autopsy. There are also currently no plans for a benefit to be held.

New local beer hits the streets

Emerald Coast Pilsner labelLocal beer lovers have one more pilsner to add to their list. Emerald Coast Beer Company, has launched Emerald Coast Pilsner. The Birmingham-based investment group spearheaded by Linearstone Holding Corporation (site still under construction). The beer, which will be brewed by Melbourne, FL based Florida Beer Company, will be available at first only in bottles and on tap at restaurants and bars. Plans call for the initial rollout to include distribution in Alabama and the Florida panhandle – home of the coastal area for which the beer is named – with additional distribution throughout the Southeastern United States in 2008.

“The Birmingham Sound” produces “Song of the Day”

It’s a track from The Birmingham Sound — The Soul of Neal Hemphill Vol. 1, a compilation CD that was produced by John Ciba and released last summer to much fanfare in Chicago and Birmingham.
