Old Gray Lady hosts AAFL tryouts Thursday

Legion Field will host the second session of national tryouts for the upstart All American Football League (AAFL) on Thursday, July 26. According to their press release, more than 200 are expected to take part, including at least 36 former Alabama and Auburn graduates.

Tryouts will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday with the Old Gray Lady’s gates being open to the public beginning at 4 p.m. There will be additional tryouts held in Michigan and Texas during August.

2007 Drought: Time changes, restrictions don’t

The Homewood City Council modified the time portion of their water restriction ordinance during this evening’s meeting according to reports from Fox6 News.

Residents may now water their lawns before 10 a.m. and after 8 p.m. The restrictions are still in place however, as they are throughout the region as a result of our stage 3 drought conditions.

St. Vincent’s ad campaign revealed

If you really thought about it, you figured that the “What Do You Believe In” campaign had to be tied to a hospital. It was hard for someone not to think that someone would try to replicate Brookwood Medical Center’s Hello Life campaign from last year. We just didn’t think it would be so soon.

What’s good enough for Obama…

Doc’s Political Parlor has posted about Bill Clinton’s planned “small donor” event now scheduled during his return trip to Birmingham. It sounds eerily similar to Barack Obama’s event earlier this month where he raised an estimated $50,000. (photos from the event)

This of course while Fred Thompson prepares to participate in a private $1,000 per couple fundraising event this evening (as reported on al.com) at the Mountain Brook home of Jim Cooper, owner of Cooper Construction Company.

Blogs for Fred Thompson points out an article currently available on New York Magazine’s website about the potential Republican presidential candidate. It’s definitely going to be an interesting race, especially now that we’re a “swing state”.

Hand in Paw at Art on the Rocks tonight

hand in paw logoThis month’s focus for Art on the Rocks will be American, with music by Indigenous. There’s more information about tonight’s event on the event’s official webpage.

Hand In Paw therapy teams will be there to greet you at the door, and Picasso Pets artwork (for their upcoming art auction in August) will be featured in the Sonat Gallery. They’re asking that if you decide to come to stop by and vote for your favorite piece. You may also want to keep in mind their Paws on the Patio events, running through September 24.
