Tomorrow Tuxedo Junction will be jumping with the sights and sounds of the 22nd annual Function at The Junction festival in Ensley. The man that brought Birmingham Hot 107.7 and FM sports talk while overseeing the fading of The X’s signal is leaving… for ATL. The Birmingham News says that Dale Daniels will be taking a job outside of the radio market industry after resigning from his position as market manager for Citadel Broadcasting, effective Friday.
Our current poll question in the Newsstand asks if local radio is better or worse because of Daniels’ tenure. Let us know what you think; maybe even put a comment or two down here.

The Birmingham Public Library is in the early stages of planning its second annual Local Authors Expo. This year’s expo will be held on November 30 and December 1. The event’s official site has information from last year’s expo to give visitors an idea of what to expect. Their blog post provides contact information as well as information about changes in this year’s format. Sounds like a great way to support our ever energetic literary scene while getting some of those early Christmas gifts taken care of.

The Birmingham News is reporting that the Vestavia Hills School Board will discuss a possible settlement during tonight’s regular meeting of a legal battle over the system’s wanting to have voided a 1970 court ruling ordering desegregation in the town’s system. Those that live in the Oxmoor Valley section of Birmingham have been speaking out against plans by the board to stop the practice of busing children to Vestavia Hills schools.
Birmingham Blues has an interesting post up that includes some of the nuances involved in this case. It would be interesting to hear from not only someone who currently lives in the Oxmoor Valley area but also about the affect that the influx of students would have on the city’s school system.

The Magic City joined Homewood in relaxing the time restrictions placed on area residents during the region’s stage 3 drought. The News’ post details the Birmingham City Council’s approval of a modification of the ordinance. The revision also allowed some area car washes to resume operation.
That change allows for city residents to water between 9 p.m. and 9 a.m. The council’s move was similar to Homewood’s, who made their modification during their council meeting last night, in that it did not affect the day of week restrictions currently in place. Vestavia Hills has also revised their ordinance’s time restrictions, now allowing residents to water between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m.
The region remains under stage 3 drought conditions.
