The old Nuncie’s building is going to be…

an office supply showroom space and headquarters. Yeah, all of those who had dreams of using the space for a nightclub, restaurant or something else can stop fantasizing.

The Birmingham Business Journal reports that Bruce Office City will be the new owners of the building, and for got it for a song…

The building is located at the intersection of Carraway Blvd. and 2nd Avenue North across from the 2nd Avenue North ramp from the Stephens Expressway northbound.

The Show #2, Matthew’s Bar & Grill

No, it’s not an error in our system (though we do have a few). Last week’s first major event for the newly formed Birmingham Art Collective, at one of Birmingham’s newest restaurants, Matthew’s Bar and Grill was so well received that they’ve sent us an email saying that they’re going to be doing an encore. We do not know any additional details about performances at this time.

We do know that it’s The Show, and it’s enjoying a return appearance.

The Collective includes many area artists, writers and musicians. You can download their poster or visit their Facebook group or MySpace profile to learn more information about them and their efforts.

Cost: $0 (though you’ll want to have cash ready for the bar)

Location:
Matthew’s Bar and Grill

Catalyst Holiday Soiree, Matthew’s Bar & Grill

This event was originally scheduled to be held in the new Sojourns location on 20th Street North. The change in locations was due to the need to accomodate a larger crowd.

Birmingham’s “hip to be civic” organization is asking for folks to come out for great food from Franklin’s Homewood Gourmet, an extended happy hour, and music from Tekneek. They’ve also got some exciting announcements about changes in leadership and their board.

Sounds like a reason to party…

Cost: $0

The First 100: Notes from the mayor’s report for 12.4.2007

A couple of hours before the council approved the business license and sales tax increases, Mayor Langford opened his comments by presenting an XO laptop to those in attendance at the council meeting; he then passed the machine around among the councilors that were present.

Mr. Langford displayed the new laptop and demonstrated the computer to the City Council and those in the audience.

He reported to the council that he has been asked by representatives of the company to be a spokesperson for the effort encouraging other cities to participate in exchange for the city being the first U.S. city to receive the machines. He announced that 15,000 computers will be delivered to the city and that they would be distributed to students in grades K-8 on April 15 at the BJCC, with a special guest in attendance at the event. We won’t know who it is until then, the mayor’s not telling…

The mayor also introduced two ordinances to the council… Continue reading
