It’s here. The new Eastwood Village Wal-Mart Supercenter #1711 opened its doors this morning at 8 a.m. complete with marching band. It’s one of three that opened in the state today. There was plenty of management on hand for the ribbon cutting (and plenty of people based on this picture). Overheard was the comment that this Wal-Mart is top of the line with all the bells and whistles the company has to offer. It certainly still has that new store smell.
The store is located at 1600 Montclair Road on the site of the former Eastwood Mall, replacing the Irondale location. Here’s a press release that’s got some interesting information like how many new jobs the store brings to the area and who received the $27,000 in community grants announced during the festivities. Now it’s just time to sit back and see how the $11 million in incentives Birmingham gave Wal-mart pay off.
