Magic City Question

Get out and support the Jena 6

09.13.2007 by Andre Natta · View Comments

MyUrbanReport has details about the “Get on the Bus” rally in front of the Jena, LA courthouse being organized for September 20. Americans for Justice Network will be sponsoring buses from several cities, including one from Birmingham. It also provides some information about how you can support the effort even if you’re unable to attend.

Many across the country are watching the situation in Louisiana unfold carefully, waiting to see just what the outcome will be for the six African American students that were originally charged with second-degree attempted murder after a high school fight. For those unfamiliar with the case, check out these links:

This is unbelievable. I hate to say that there are always fights at schools, but the reality is that there are. Rarely, if ever, are the participants charged with any crime, let alone attempted murder. I realize that the quotes from the student who was attacked were chosen purposefully, but still, he sounds arrogant and not fearful. If someone had attempted to murder me, with their lethal shoes, I think I would still be afraid. This sounds like a miscarraige fo justice. Possibly the other students should be tried in another venue.

My uncle lives there. Just FYI, it's pronounced "geena" not "jenna"

This is a very sad story. I was in a school fight more than once and to think they could have charged me with attempted murder for having on a shoe is amazing.

We should all be worried if this case goes as planned.
