Birmingham Mayor Larry Langford shared his intentions with the audience assembled in The Harbert Center early this morning. He hoped that the Birmingham City Council approves his request to release funds to begin construction of the much-talked about multipurpose facility for the BJCC campus downtown.
Or to put it simply, he’s saying, “Let’s do the dome… NOW!”
Those in attendance received t-shirts as well as noisemakers and party horns. They were entertained by the Birmingham Wildfire dance team, The Heat, and shown plans for the Fair Park complex as well as a proposed plan to move forward with the dome created by Davis Architects.
The mayor also provided information to all attendees that represented jobs created, spending totals for construction and visitors, total person income generated as well as potential tax revenues numbers (PDF will be uploaded later this evening).
They’ve also created a Twitter profile for the campaign. The council is scheduled to vote on this item (#9), involving releasing no more than $20 million through 2011 to begin work on the facility, during tomorrow’s meeting.
By the way, we’re still interested in what you have to say about our recent Magic City Question about the “dome” project…
