Instead of a full size dome, why not tear down the BJCC Arena and replace it with a new facility that seats 30,000 or so? That would accommodate every proposed user except the Magic City Classic, and might save some money compared to a real dome. The Arena is obsolete and needs replacing anyway.

I agree that we need a multi-purpose venue. Just look at the loss of AHSAA Super Six football championships. And if improvements or a new facility not built we will lose Basketball Finals also.

Make it 30k and make room for possible expansion.

The City of Birmingham’s tax base won’t support a high school stadium, much less a dome. I agree that the Metro area needs a nice multi purpose facility – but that will require cooperation of other metro cities. If, and when, Birmingham can escape the corruption that permeates city politics, that could happen. Until then, however, any Mayor of another city who endorses a financial venture with the City of Birmingham . . will soon be a former Mayor.
