Birmingham’s Tiger Nation contingent should have been dancing in the streets yesterday as former Auburn swimmer Kirsty Coventry of Zimbabwe set a new world record of 58.77 in the women’s 100m backstroke at the Summer Olympics in Beijing. The crazy thing is, it was only the semifinals.

The finals are being broadcast live during prime time coverage this evening so you have a good chance to make up for not dancing if you didn’t.
