Artists Shana Berger and Nathan Purath will present Artists Build Community with Their Work, the latest installment of their Artist Forum series.
From the organization’s announcement:
The idea that art can take a direct role in making a just society inspires and informs Berger and Purath’s practice. In 2002, they co-founded the artists group, Your Art Here with fellow members Owen Mundy and Alyssa Hill. Their projects have addressed specific social needs by working directly with communities with the aim of realizing positive change. For the last three years, they have lived and worked in rural Alabama, facilitating community driven public art projects in the town of York, Alabama. Ultimately, they hope to empower artists and citizens in order to influence community creatively, change the way that art is made and viewed in contemporary society.
There will be a 30-minute presentation by the artists followed by an open discussion with the community about their work and other community-based art projects.
