Larry Langford, with 100% of the precincts reporting, has collected 170 more votes than necessary to win the election outright, but unofficially. Langford received 10,835 more votes than Birmingham lawyer Patrick Cooper. 52,111 votes were cast in the 2007 mayoral election.

The totals as previously mentioned are currently unofficial. Patrick Cooper does plan to call for a recount.

The total turnout approximately equaled 45%. There are 116,668 registered voters in the city of Birmingham. According to the 2005 census, there are 222,154 people living in the city. We are working on compiling numbers from other recent mayoral elections in neighboring cities.

What a pathetic turnout... aren't there a few hundred thousand city of Birmingham residents?
