There seems to be a love affair across the country with kickball and Birmingham is no exception. There are teams that play downtown, folks trying to organize leagues and then there are the folks that started doing this just for the fun of it in Avondale Park.

Well, that crew is playing their second major charity game of the year this evening as the Kickball Allstars, facing the crew from Rojo in Highland Park. The match starts at 7 p.m. at Avondale Park. Players from each team will be collecting monies for their charities from spectators (The Kickball Allstars will be playing for the Greater Birmingham Humane Society, the Rojo team will be playing to raise monies for Sharrif Simmons). The players will also collect money among themselves, with each participant donating $10 in order to play this evening. The team that wins gets to take the larger pot of money, meaning that both charities will benefit.

Black & White’s Chuck Geiss will serve as the referee and announcer for the game and there will be an after party at Bottletree, so now you can’t say there’s nothing to do this evening.
