The amount of new parents that are turning to "babywearing" is incredible. Our local resident experts in the field, the Magic City Slingers, have reason to enjoy this Friday the 13th as their new business cards have arrived.

Birmingham’s chapter (Alabama’s first incidentally) of Nine In, Nine Out, the national babywearing organization, says that it purpose is to bring together experienced “babywearers” and people who would like help choosing and using a baby carrier. They call it a “fellowship of the sling.” You may want to check out the nonprofit’s site to learn more about who founded the group and how it is helping newborns and parents.

I'm showing my 7 month pregnant wife this article even though we have purchased 2 slings and are ready to go.

LOL, you WOULD link to the "cards are here" post! I want to clarify that slings are not just for newborns. Many baby carriers are suitable for use through toddlerhood. (Think about it ... parents carry their toddlers on their hips all the time ... it's just so much easier with a good carrier.) I carry my 16-month old on my back in an Ergo Baby Carrier; it's great for hiking or quick trips when the stroller is just a hassle. Plus, stairs and doors are no problem. :-)

Thanks for the link! We've been in existence less than a year and have almost a hundred local parents on our listserv and consistently 20 or so at our monthly meetings. We welcome any new or expecting parents or caregivers who would like to see what the sling thing is all about! Also, I am not sure if slings are quite quirky these days, check out all these celebrity babywearers!
