It’s time for the Junction to be jumping again. The 23rd annual Function at The Junction will take place this Saturday, July 26, from 10 a.m. – 10 p.m. in Erskine Hawkins Park in Ensley. This year the festival will feature national recording acts Shirley Brown (of Woman to Woman fame) & EU (y’all remember Da Butt, if not, click and take a listen.) It’s a celebration of music on the city’s West side and a homecoming for many (normal reported estimates put the crowd at 4,000 people).
The merchants in the neighborhood’s historic downtown area will be hosting an evening of entertainment and fun on Friday night. You’ll be able to enjoy the Minister Prince Yelder & the Disciples of Christ and the Abyssinia Youth Choir near Marino’s on Avenue E & The Js and a performance from Walls Dance Studio along 19th Street Ensley from 5 – 8 p.m. Beginning at 8, folks can wander over to the outdoor stage in front of the Westside Lounge (corner of 17th Street and Avenue E, Ensley) and hear from Neo Jazz Collective and Daniel “José” Carr.
