This week I am relying on the kindness of strangers. Strangers that have e-mailed about theater. So . . .
You can see “Simple Gifts” by the Red Mountain Theatre Company at their own Red Mountain Cabaret in the basement of the old Kress building (301 19th St. North, downtown). Here’s what RMTC has to say about it
“Bringing you the best of RMTC’s original holiday productions, Simple Gifts pays tribute to past classics, highlights new performances and combines our greatest musical moments into one delightful treat! Enjoy your favorite holiday hits in this cheerful celebration that is sure to spread the humor and heart of the season. Join us an hour before each Friday and Saturday performance for pre-show music by the Youth Programs, a cash bar and yummy Cabaret snacks.”
Holiday bonus: Santa will make an appearance before the Saturday and Sunday shows to visit with young guests. Tickets are $30. You can catch the show through Dec. 16. Thursday-Saturday, 7:30 p.m./Sunday matinee, 2:00 p.m.
More choices after the jump:
Or you can see “Christmas Belles” at Terrific New Theatre. And I quote,
“It’s Christmas-time in Plano, Texas, and the Futrelle Sisters — Frankie, Twink and Honey Raye — are not in a festive mood. Frankie is weeks overdue with her second set of twins. Twink, recently jilted and still bitter, is in jail for inadvertently burning down half the town. And hot-flash-suffering Honey Raye is desperately trying to keep the Tabernacle of the Lamb’s Christmas Program from spiraling into chaos.”
Sounds like a nice comedy to me. TNT is located in the Dr. Pepper showrooms at Pepper Place, 2821 2nd Ave. South. Show runs through Dec. 22. Call 328-0868 for $20 tickets.
Here is your holiday freebie for the weekend. Briarwood Ballet is presenting “Glory to the Newborn King.” The program is based on the classic hymn “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” and will feature advanced dancers from Briarwood Ballet School and professional dancers from Hosanna Sacred Arts. There will be two showings — Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m. — at Briarwood Presbyterian Church‘s worship center, 2200 Briarwood Way. (take the Acton Road exit off I-459).All these suggestions are for at night.
During the day, what I really would like you to do is GET OUTSIDE! Highs for the weekends will reach 75! Sure the cold weather will get here sometime so now is the time to really appreciate the chance to wear shorts in December. Be sure to call any of your friends up North to taunt them. I know I will.
