Baby Blue salad in a pickup truck

Baby Blue and a pickup

No, we’re not kidding. This morning Franklin Biggs and employees from his Homewood business prepared what has to be one of the largest Baby Blue salads ever… in the bed of a red pickup truck. A large crowd turned out despite the rain, and Biggs is hoping for a larger turnout as he prepares to celebrate the 10th anniversary of his Homewood Gourmet store this afternoon at the Children’s Dance Foundation. Joyrides and cats on leashes

While many people are focusing on Lipscomb’s mayor using an impounded vehicle as his own (for city purposes of course), the more interesting story comes out of Pleasant Grove.

There they voted to add cats to the city’s leash law. Apparently there are a lot of cats roaming the streets of the Birmingham suburb. So it’s time to make sure that the little ones have tags identifying who they belong to, otherwise it’s $25 for the first offense, with fines going up to $50 & $75 afterwards. Wonder what happens when the cats meet up with the dogs while they’re out for their afternoon walks…

The future of home delivery?

Scott Walker's digital newspaper box

This digital newspaper box (yes, it’s glowing) is a personal project of Scott Walker, an associate editor at The Birmingham News. It delivers headlines, sights and sounds to his living room thanks to an Mac Mini and a few hours of work.

Maybe not the future, but it definitely says something about how we get our news nowadays. Maybe we could do that someday ourselves . Continue reading
