Historic Mines Hike, Ruffner Mountain Nature Center

Explore Ruffner Mountain’ Nature Center’s mining past on this 2 hour guided hike which will take you to see some of the less traveled areas of the mountain & the historic remnants of Birmingham’s Iron Ore Era. They say it’s a moderate hike and they suggest wearing comfortable shoes and bring water to drink. City Birds and Java, Ruffner Mountain Nature Center

Calling all birders! Novices and experts alike. Meet naturalists from Ruffner Mountain Nature Center at the center’s pavilion for free coffee and an introduction to local roasters Higher Ground. The company uses fair-trade beans from organic shade-grown coffee plants and their spokesman, Alex Varner, will explain how that’s really good for migratory birds. After the meet & greet, it’s off for a tour of some amazing nearby local bird habitats. Bring binoculars or borrow one of theirs.

Full Moon Wine & Cheese Hike, Ruffner Mountain Nature Center

Ruffner Moutain Nature Center invites you to come out to an ADULTS ONLY event (no pets please).
A UNIQUEly Birmingham social event. Easy to moderate hike to the overlook. View a fantastic sunset, enjoy great company & light refreshments. The full moon will make the evening a special occasion. Payment by check or cash on day of event. No credit or debit cards accepted. Primitive Skills Workshop, Ruffner Mountain Nature Center

The folks at Ruffner Mountain Nature Center invite you out to “learn basic primitive techniques of shelter building, ID of wild edible plants,simple fire making, & other woodland survival skills from an edible plant expert, naturalist and outdoor enthusiast.” Plus you get a chance to explore one of the largest urban preserves in the Southeast.
