Two ways to get into a ghoulish mood for tomorrow

Here are two ways at least:

Halloween Pub Run, Storyteller Fountain (Five Pts. South), 6 p.m.

BTC Halloween banner

The Birmingham Track Club is sponsoring this 3-mile jaunt in the Five Points South area this evening. Our calendar entry has some more information, or you could just click on the image above and get it straight from the club itself.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, WCFT-TV, 7 p.m.

Still from Peanuts special

The other option this evening is to check out the annual broadcast of “It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” being broadcast on ABC tonight and relive the memories… if only there were a York® Peppermint Patty commercial…

Halloween Pub Run & Costume Contest, Five Points South

It’s a unique way to get into the Halloween spirit – running the streets of Birmingham with the option to stop for a liquid break at area drinking establishments. That’s the idea behind this run sponsored by the Birmingham Track Club. They’re also encouraging participants to wear costumes, giving people several opportunities to win prizes. The awards are scheduled to be given away at Cosmo’s Pizza after the run.

If you don’t participate, don’t be surprised then if you see some of this year’s most popular costumes running beside you during the evening rush. And don’t forget your ID in case you plan on stopping in at the pubs during (or after) the race.

Cost: $0 (unless you’re planning to make the optional pub stops)

Location:

Storyteller Fountain, Five Points South (directions)

Tune in for Obama MySpace dialogue this afternoon

With most of the hype surrounding our local elections finally starting to die down (despite some feeling that its got to keep on going), it’s time to finally begin shifting some attention to our nation’s presidential race.

Barack Obama

Tune in this afternoon at 12:30 p.m. local time (yeah, still no clock changing yet) over on MySpace’s Election 2008 profile to catch a live webcast of a dialogue with presidential candidate Barack Obama as he speaks at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Don’t think of it as goofing off, think of it as getting better prepared to make a decision about our nation’s next leader. The profile also lets those with MySpace profiles know how they can submit questions and take part in the dialogue.

Of course you can always come back here and let us know what you thought about it as well. Just saying…

Harvest Brew, SoHo Square

October will be over soon so now is the time to take advantage of this Oktoberfest Celebration. For $10, you’ll get a taste of the newest imports and microbrews available in the state. And you’ll be helping United Way/Birmingham Community Food Bank. So it’s win-win.

Location:

SoHo Square is located in downtown Homewood.

Cost: $10; Tickets on sale the day of the event.

There are options this weekend

You just need to know where to look. And in a metro area of more than 1 million people, there are some other things going on this weekend that may draw crowds, though probably none as large as The Magic City Classic.

Christina’s got her picks  ready and waiting as usual for you over on Timetable.

The Classic’s this weekend!

Magic City Classic LogoNow, considering that most of you have already seen the billboards, the commercials, and have already planned which parties you’re going to attend (both tonight and tomorrow), there’s not much more to say about Birmingham’s biggest sports event of the year.

The Magic City Classic kicks off tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at historic Legion Field. The parade will begin downtown at 9 a.m. taking this route to the field with Sinbad serving as Grand Marshal. One thing that folks need to be aware of for this year’s game is the new park-n-ride system that’s been set up to make it easier to get to and from the game. Follow the jump to see specific information about traffic and parking for the event. Don’t forget to visit our friends over at Urbanham.com as they are an official media sponsor of this year’s event.

You may also want to consider submitting your pics from The Classic to The Rumble. You can always send them in via email: photos@bhamterminal.com.

2nd annual “Walk to d’feet ALS,” Samford University

Saturday, the ALS Association of Alabama is sponsoring its second annual fundraising event “Walk to D’Feet ALS” at Samford University’s Seibert Stadium. Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk starting at 10. Registration is also available online. There is no fee to walk but you’ll need to get some sponsors behind you. Last year, the Birmingham event raised more than $65,000. Walks are also held in Tuscaloosa and Huntsville. More than $170,000 was raised statewide in 2006. This year’s statewide goal is $245,000. They can’t do it without you so families, groups and individuals are all invited to participate. The walk route is wheelchair and stroller accessible. If you can’t make it, you can still participate by donating. The ALS Association (ALSA) Alabama Chapter’s walk is part of a national effort in support of local patient services and nationally directed research. A progressive neurodegenerative disease sometimes known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, ALS strikes more than 5,000 people in the United States each year. For more information, e-mail walk@ALSAlabama.org or call 1-800-664-1242.
