Sift through vintage furniture, books, CDs, DVDs, vinyl, vintage clothes, art and antiques while checking out one of the hippest places in Birmingham.

The Bottletree is hosting its second annual rummage sale today. So unless it’s pouring rain, you need to go check it out. Actually, you need to go even if it is pouring rain. Just beacuse.

Of course, then they’ll try to get you to purchase tickets for the Blowfly show later that evening, which isn’t a bad thing at all, now is it?

New poll question: Who’d you pick for mayor today?

We figured it was time to start changing our poll questions on at least a weekly basis.

For those of you that are reading this via your RSS feed, please visit the site and vote in this week’s poll. It is a timely question, considering the increase in candidates for the mayor’s office in Birmingham (the election is coming up in October, with a runoff election if needed in November).

A day of silence online

Internet Radio Day of Silence imageFans of Birmingham, Alabama’s local internet radio stations like Fried Green Radio and Radio Free Birmingham were getting prepared for it for weeks, yet it still sounds weird. Even one of the pioneers of the movement, WMVY in Martha’s Vineyard, is doing it. Visit these sites and you’re sure to hear silence, or maybe just the sound of crickets in the background.

This is the result of a silent protest organized by large and small online stations alike to draw attention to increased royalty fees that have been proposed by the Copyright Royalty Board and that are scheduled to go into effect beginning in March. Check out the sites to learn more about why it’s being done and what you can do to help.
