Gimme Shelter: Barkitecture Charity Auction, B&A Warehouse

The Barkitecture tour concludes at B&A Warehouse, where attendees can bid on some incredible doghouses as well as some items for our other four-legged friends.

The event starts at 7 p.m. and features live & silent auctions, live entertainment by Nashville’s Webb Wilder, food, drinks and fun.
The winning doghouse design will be featured in both the Southern Living House Plans Magazine and website along with a profile of the architect who designed and built the doghouse.

The American Institute of Architects Birmingham Chapter (AIA) and The Greater Birmingham Humane Society (GBHS) collaborated to bring "Gimme Shelter: Barkitecture Tour & Charity Auction" to life.

Tickets cost $75 and $125 and are available from GBHS (click here to purchase).

Pepper Place Farmers Market, Pepper Place

The Pepper Place Saturday Market is in its eighth year providing residents with a place to get fresh produce while exploring one of the city’s coolest districts. The market will begin promptly at 7 a.m. and close at noon in the Pepper Place parking lot. According to the event website, new products available include hand carved wooden fruit trays, wind chimes, hand blown glass, hot sauces, pottery, homemade fudge, peanut brittle and ice cream. Activities include cooking demonstrations by some of the region’s best chefs. A chance to meet up with friends and see what Alabama has to offer in terms of produce.

Pepper Place Market starts tomorrow

Pepper Place logoOne of the rituals of the summer is upon us – the beginning of the Pepper Place Saturday Market tomorrow morning. The market will begin it’s eighth season promptly at 7 a.m. and close at noon in the Pepper Place parking lot. This of course means that 2nd Avenue between 28th and 29th Streets, South will be blocked off all of those Saturday mornings (so don’t get any ideas about using it as a short cut on Saturdays through October). According to the event website, new products available include hand carved wooden fruit trays, wind chimes, hand blown glass, hot sauces, pottery, homemade fudge, peanut brittle and ice cream. AmSouth signs being replaced throughout the city

Lost in yesterday’s approval of demolition plans for the former Birmingham News building was the pending formal removal of the AmSouth name from area banks. AmSouth merged with Regions Bank last year and during yesterday’s Design Review Committee meeting, four banking centers that currently carry the AmSouth name received approval for new signage.

The bank locations approved yesterday are located in Ensley, Five Points South, the Birmingham Green (20th Street North) and Midtown (University Boulevard).

According to Steve Looney with Commander Board Signs, the new signs may be installed in as little as six weeks. It’s possibly your last chance to capture a glance at the local bank’s logo before it fades into history.
