Surveying Engine No. 22

Last summer’s victory by neighborhood advocates to save a structure listed on the National Register of Historic Places was celebrated by preservationists in metro Birmingham, AL and elsewhere. A recent decision elsewhere in the Southeastern United States may make how future victories are achieved that much harder.

Council committee to consider Fire Station No. 22 sale

The fate of the former Birmingham Fire Department Engine No. 22 building is partially in the hands of the city’s budget and finance committee. They will consider the proposal to sell to the developer wanting to replace it with a Walgreens. The full council must still vote after receiving the recommendation from the committee.
