The football gods are smiling again on Birmingham, AL as a re-imagined USFL is looking at the city as it prepares to relaunch in spring 2013. We find out sometime this summer if we’re one of the eight cities chosen (probably why we’re seeing so much coverage now).

Yes, the last three BCS championship games were won by teams hailing from the state of Alabama – so there’s a good reason to be paying a lot of attention to them on National Signing Day. It’d be a shame though if we didn’t take a moment and at least acknowledge the institutions in the immediate metro Birmingham area that signed student-athletes on February 1.

This mornings Birmingham City Council agenda includes a lot of properties that need their weeds cut down, a contract to help publicize the BBVA Compass Bowl and adding an expansion onto the new aquatic center before its finished (that was originally in there anyway).
