Gas prices update

09.12.2008 by Andre Natta · View Comments

With approximately 25% of the country’s oil refineries located along or near the path of Hurricane Ike, these rising prices may be around for a few days. We’re seeing several reports following the early ones we mentioned earlier today

We’ve just heard via Twitter that gas in Bluff Park is at $4.49/gallon. If you could put gas prices that you see during your evening commute in our comments section, we’d appreciate it (as well as everybody else who visits The Hub).

  • In Hoover/Pelham area Saturday it was $4.65 at one station, yet "only" $3.89 at another one only about half a mile away.

$3.95 at Sam's Club on Kilgore Memorial in Irondale (a 40 cent jump from about 8:10 a.m. this morning)

$4.19 at the BP station across the street

$3.99 on 3rd Ave. South, a 10 cent jump from this morning and about a 40 cent jump from yesterday.

BP at Lakeshore & Greensprings Hwy $3.53 with lines around the block. Other stations on Greensprings had regular from $3.71 to $4.19. That represents between a .12 and .60 increase OVERNIGHT. Who knows what it will be tomorrow.

We didn't run out of gasoline when Katrina hit and this time people are actually paying attention and getting the heck out of Dodge. Greed and incredulity are the only two reasons for the gas hike. Greed on the part of the distributors and incredulity (to put it nicely) on the part of the citizenry.
