Shoppers at Birmingham-area Western Supermarkets gave from their heart to support the activities of the Jimmie Hale Mission. This morning Darwin Metcalf, president of Western Supermarkets, presented a check for $13,579.80 to Tony Cooper, the executive director of the Mission.
The monies were collected from shoppers that chose to donate $1.95 while checking out with their purchases, to provide a meal for a homeless man, woman or child at one of the three Jimmie Hale Mission facilities - Royal Pines Center in Blount County, Shepura Men’s Center and Jessie’s Place for women and children in downtown Birmingham. Their donations will provide 6,964 warm meals.
In the seven years since the program began, more than 39,679 warm meals have been served due to the generosity of Western’s customers.
