According of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) website, every 16 minutes someone dies by suicide. You can help the AFSP raise money for research and education programs to prevent suicide by participating in the local Out of the Darkness Community Walk, one of several across the country.
The walk will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, at Heardmont Park, 5458 Cahaba Valley Road. Registration begins at 7 a.m. and the walk begins at 9 a.m. The walk is approximately 5 miles long. Find more information on the Out of the Darkness website. As stated on the site, there is no registration fee and no minimum amount of money that you must raise to participate. You can sign up here.

Just wanted to update the information regarding the length of the walk. It’s closer to 3 miles than to 5 miles. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.
