Legion Field will host the second session of national tryouts for the upstart All American Football League (AAFL) on Thursday, July 26. According to their press release, more than 200 are expected to take part, including at least 36 former Alabama and Auburn graduates.
Tryouts will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday with the Old Gray Lady’s gates being open to the public beginning at 4 p.m. There will be additional tryouts held in Michigan and Texas during August.
We’ve previously told you about the league’s intentions to have Birmingham serve as a home for one of the league’s first teams. The fact that the release mentions both former Crimson Tide and Tiger players is interesting based on this piece by Phillip Marshall of the Huntsville Times. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens.
Play is scheduled to begin this spring.

Thanks for the info on the tryouts. I plan on attending them. I can’t wait to see what players are going to be participating. It seems as though the AAFL is getting their stuff together and will hopefully meet there spring ‘08 kickoff. I like the idea of the league, but we’ll see how it advances.
Anyone else plan on attending the tryouts?

Note that tryouts are scheduled for the players and the cheerleaders… free BBQ is being provided, as well, to fans who come out just to watch.

If it’s anything like the event in Orlando, then it should be a great time.
