VulcanAwardsIf you’ve been thinking about who you’re planning to nominate for the first ever Vulcan awards, you don’t have much time left. The nominations for the inaugural awards cycle are due today (July 31). While a cut-off time is not stated on the online nomination form. it’s safe to assume you’ll probably want to submit it before 11:59 p.m. CT (if you don’t print one off and drive it up to Red Mountain during the park’s regular business hours).

The organizers are hoping to position themselves, according to their online description, as “The Most Prestigious Recognition of Civic Pride, Leadership and Progress in the Birmingham Region.” Five individuals will be chosen from those nominated and recognized during an awards ceremony in early October to be held at The Club — one for each of the following: Lifetime Achievement; Hero; Servant Leadership; Newcomer; Game Changer.

Submitting the form online also gives visitors a chance to check out the recent radical redesign for the virtual home of Birmingham’s Big Guy.
