This is becoming a common sight in downtown Ensley; final preparations for the opening of a new business. Tomorrow the community will celebrate recent openings with the first annual Ensley Revitalization Festival.
The festival, organized by Antonio Spurling and his wife Marquita, will shine a light on the rennaissance that is beginning to take place on Birmingham’s west side in general and in downtown Ensley in particular.
The couple has already been operating Recycled Wardrobe, a contemporary clothing consignment store, for a little less than a year in Ensley.
The festival begins at 10 a.m. and go until 4 p.m. at the intersection of 19th Street & Avenue E, Ensley. Attendees will enjoy food, games and music as well as the opportunity to explore several new businesses in the area, including Playover Games and Movies, pictured above.
It is one of five businesses that the Spurlings operate in the area including Mr. Spurling’s law office, which he recently moved from Southside.
The couple will be interviewed tomorrow morning (July 21) on Fox 6 about the festival. It’s a great way to kick off a week of activities in the Western area highlighted by the annual Function at the Junction Festival, taking place next Saturday, July 28.
